36) How many windows are there in this building?
MICA Building is located at the junction of Hill Street and River Valley Road. This prominent colonial building was built in 1934. It was the largest government building and modern skyscraper at that time.
The historical building was built as a police station. To ease the entrance of the building, the steep slopes of Fort Canning Hill had to be cut back to provide access.
The colonial landmark, now home to the Ministry of Information, Communications and Arts (MICA) is also known as the Old Hill Street Police Station as it was used to house the Police Station and Barracks.
Total numbers of 927 rainbow-painted timber frame casement windows never fail to draw the attention of passerby. It makes the streetscape more lively and vibrant.
Sunlight casting through the skylight, landing on the interior exhibition gallery, not only egg-on more inspiration but gives a natural touch to art and this distinctive building.
35) Where is your Bandstand?
This is the only bandstand in my memory since childhood. For some, when you ask the question around, the answer might not be great difference. Yes, we are back to Singapore Botanic Gardens again.
With fair skin and elegant appearance, this octagonal classic beauty was refaced in 1930. It was erected in the 1860s as a focus point of Botanic Gardens. For sure, that was our grandparents or even our great grandparents’ time. But it has retired from its military band performance. So, let’s listen to the musical flow in the charming winds and cicadas’ call.
And so, where is your Bandstand? Mine is in this lovely garden. Anywhere, in any of its piece of greenery!

28) Where is this sculpture?
Sculpture outside URA
This sculpture can be found outside URA-Urban Redevelopment Authority’s Building in Singapore.
This sculpture is a symbolic of the Sam Shui Woman (红头巾) in memory of their selflessness contributions to our country.
Sam Shui Woman whom is a Chinese immigrant from Sam Shui, a province of China during the olden days.
Most of them work in construction site, doing hard labour works like carrying cement, bricks and timber for building construction. They are tough and work very hard day and night, mostly more than 10 hours a day, but only get 5 to 6 cents in return during those days.
They put on a self-design scarf in the color of red to shade themselves from rain and shine.
Most Sam Shui Woman live in Chinatown area, along豆腐街, Tofu Street (presently known as Chin Chew Street). They stay in rented conservation unit with unpleasant and unhealthy condition, as most of them are cramped in the small little space the unit can provide.
But, subsequently their names gradually gain the respect of the community at home and abroad as they have contributed tremendously to the building construction industries in those days. “Red Scarf”, thus became the revered of Sam Shui woman unique and specific terms showing the noble and resilient character of the Overseas Chinese Women.

A glance at the Stadium MRT Station.
Stadium MRT Station, an underground Mass Rapid Transit station on the Circle Line in Singapore. The station serves the Kallang area and it’s located within the Kallang & Mountbatten vicinity. It was opened on 17 April 2010 and earned The 2010 Singapore President’s Design Award, Design of the Year by reputable firm, WOHA Architects.

In my opinion, the interior of Stadium looks like a ship, cladded with gray tiles, side windows and a central skylight allowing light penetration. It also provides an oceanic view with vibrant turqoise colors as you slide from the top of the escalators to the basement platform.

9) Friend – Pyrite / 朋友(9) – 黄铁矿
太太买给我的这块小矿石摆在桌上已有好几年。华人相信这种黄铁矿能带给人财运，至今，我还怀疑。
My wife gave me a piece of Pyrite and it was lying on my table for several years. Some believe that Pyrite can bring wealth, but I am sceptical about the effects it can convey.
这小矿石酷似黄金，但与黄金的身价却天渊之别。
This Ore resembles gold, but in contrast with gold, it worth a world of difference.
无疑的，在众多的矿石中它是一个小人物；一两的山寨版黄金。
Undoubtedly, in the giant colliery, it is a little guy；an ounce of countefeit gold.
但如果你细细把它放大看，里头的景观有如外太空星球的表面，它本身组成的立方体层层叠叠，充满艺术感，就好比展览馆里的艺术品。
But under the magnifying glass, the landscape of this little guy resembles the outer space, the planet’s surface. The cube itself is a composition of layers of nature’s art works resurfacing in an exhibition hall.
这些纹路有致的小立方体，每一个代表人生的转折，一个转折将会影响下一个位置。而这些弯曲转折的山路，不就是它把故事凑起来的小镜头吗？
The lines caustic by the little small cubes, each and every pieces representing a turning point in life; a turning point affecting the next position. Just like the curvy turning point of a mountain, pooling the little shot of our own story.
